Course Reflective Narrative:
In this course I was able to learn the history of Latin America. Till this day there are political, social and economical problems that have been the major out comes of the conquest of Latin America. This course helped me reflect on my roots as a Mexican American, my culture and the importance and my role in today's society. By taking this course I was able to reconcile with my past and learned how I can use my voice to make a difference. It was fascinating to learn about theories of the first men in Latin America as well as the real name of Latin America. I was mesmerized about the first civilizations how sophisticated the people were and the links between nature and man. Through documentaries such as Harvest of Empire I was able to learn if there is a unity in all Latin America. Dr, Rafael Gómez, had all of us critically think if such unity exists. In my perspective I was able to conclude that we all share many things in common. We share great indigenous civilizations, conquests, dictatorships, abuse but we also share many great things like revolutions, food, textiles, geography etc... In this class, we were able to learn about European, African and Indigenous roots creating riches of cultures. Attached I will share a class photo where we as a class collaborated with the CSUMB Spanish Club to celebrate and bring awareness off Afro-Latinidad on our first ever Afro-Latinx Celebration at CSUMB. I will also share I presentation about the different type of textile art around Latin America. Enjoy!
